To Love Unconditionally

When I saw the quote, "The problem is, everyone is looking for unconditional Love, carrying a bag full of conditions," I gasped. Wow! the truth of that statement wasn't lost on me.

From the moment we draw our first breath, we are looking to be loved, to be cherished, to be respected and protected. Some would argue that this is etched into our DNA so deeply that infants who don't find this waiting for them fail to thrive.

Unfortunately, in this imperfect existence, love has been twisted and mangled to the point of almost being unrecognizable. Love is an action we not only associate with people but things. Let's face it, we need a new word for loving things; otherwise, how will we ever grasp the enormity and sanctity of unconditional Love?  "I love my car," is not the same as, "I love you," yet the words we use are identical.

Furthermore, when we add to this humanity's incessant need to control and conditionalize, and you have the unfortunate situations found around the world today. Love is guaranteed if you look a certain way, talk a certain way, have this amount of money in the bank, live on this or that side of the tracks, belong to this church or political party...the list of conditions is endless.

So what happens when we try to Love unconditionally? Is this even possible? Can we humans look beyond the surface to see the shining gem of Spirit that makes each of us a unique part of the Source?

I believe we can, but we must practice this unconditional Love every minute. We must first start with ourselves, realizing that we are not and never will be "perfect." Perfection is a sick illusion that is more deadly than any pandemic! Those wrapped up in being perfect or seeking perfection miss out in the joys and beauty of life. Perfection is a condition that has a price tag no one can afford. We can come close but scratch the surface of perfection and the ordinary always lies within.

Once we accept ourselves as we are, loving our imperfection, seeing the beauty of our souls shining brighter than the shell they exist within, then we can begin to find the same Love for others.

Unconditional Love, after all, is not a human construct. This Love is sacred, divine and comes from Source. True Love, unconditional Love exists on a plane we can only reach once we stop looking with our eyes and start seeing with our spirits. To Love unconditionally, is a lifelong pursuit with many twists and turns along the way. As humans, we find moments of unconditional Love if we look. However, the truth is that we can only find moments because unconditional Love, for the human being, is almost impossible to maintain. This doesn't mean we shouldn't try, though.

Our collective purpose in this existence is to develop the skills and strength of soul to Love unconditionally. We are called, regardless of our faith path, to see the Divine is each other. To see the Divine is to Love unconditionally, because we must first stop looking at what covers the Divine spark.

To Love unconditionally takes a lifetime of work and dedication. Catching a glimpse, even for a moment, fills us with Grace beyond measure.

Blessings to all.
